Yes, it’s happening again. The Morrison Bridge will close to all users this weekend for the application of a top coat over the recently re-paved lift deck span. According to a media release, the "epoxy overlay resembles asphalt and provides a smooth ride with good traction." That’s a plus. In any case, to do the work, contractors must close all lanes to all traffic from 8 p.m. Friday through as late as 5 a.m. Monday, October 27-30. Weather should be helpful as clear skies and mild temperatures are in the forecast.
Traffic plan includes:
Ramps between the Morrison Bridge and Interstate 5 and Interstate 84 will be closed, except for the ramp from the Morrison Bridge westbound to I-5 north. Motorists can access I-84 eastbound at Grand Avenue and Everett Street or at Irving Street and 16th Avenue. Access to I-5 north on the eastside is from the ramp at Northeast Broadway and North Williams Avenue. I-5 south traffic can access the onramp to Highway 99E/U.S. 26. During the closure, TriMet’s bus route 15-Belmont/NW 23rd will detour to the Hawthorne Bridge. Pedestrians and bicyclists should choose an alternate bridge including the Hawthorne or Broadway.
After this weekend’s closure, the release warns that there will be intermittent closures of single lanes and sidewalks on the bridge as the contractor finishes up work on the lift span deck replacement. And there will be occasional off-peak single lane closures for a few weeks in November.
